Thursday, January 16, 2014

HP has had a less than stellar history with Android in the past, but it seems to be taking quite efforts on making up for that. HP has unveiled the new Slate 6 VoiceTab and Slate 7 VoiceTab dual-SIM devices. HP has decided to completely erase any distinction between conventional smart phones and tablets. These devices will be available next month in India.

HP already has a significant presence in the Indian PC market with approximately one third of conventional PC sales, and the Indian smart phone market is more diverse - 800-pound gorilla Samsung only has a 15% share of sales, which as compared to approximately 33% in the US. HP also sees potential in the way Indian consumers scorn the usual carrier subsidy model, and are open to buy devices outright without a service contract. At the very moment the company has not announced any plans to bring the Slate 6 or Slate 7 to any other countries.

SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Both devices run on Android 4.2 and come with quad-core processor (most likely from Marvell), 16GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support, microSD card slot, 3G, 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.
  • HP Slate 6 Voice Tab is expected to be an Android device and it is likely to have a 6-inch display, this is because the HP Slate 7 has a 7-inch display. At just 7 inches diagonal with stainless steel accents and a soft-touch back, it’s perfect whether you are out and about or relaxing at home.
  • The HP Slate 6 Voice Tab will have a 6-inch display with a 1212 x 720 pixel resolution, whereas, at the same time the alleged phablets from HP is seen sporting a HD display with 240ppi pixel density.
  • The device is expected to be powered by Marvell PXA1088 chipset that is clocked at 1GHz and a Vivante GC1000 GPU. The Android version on which the HP Slate 6 Voice Tab will run is 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
  • The rumors suggest that the 6-inch HP Slate 6 Voice Tab is likely to be capable of making voice calls. So, it should be a phablet similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
  • Run apps, 3-D games, and more with fast response times and sharp video. With a low-energy, high-performance processor and a powerful battery, you can run errands, enjoy your music and movies, and get things done without running out of battery.

The price of the Slate 6 and Slate 7 VoiceTab has not been revealed at this point and will be announced closer to the release.
