Introducing
Blackphone, a smart phone that has been designed for users to have more secured,
and have all communications encrypted while also giving the users private
browsing and secure file-sharing for all those who use the device. It aims to
put privacy in your hands, protecting you from anyone who wants to snoop into
your private data — even the NSA.
Silent
Circle and Geeksphone have teamed up to bring this device to life. The design
of the Blackphone looks similar to a matte black refined iPhone 5. Not much
detail was given about the hardware or when this phone will be released
(expected to be thoroughly announced with hands on testing at Mobile World
Congress (MWC) this year). The basis of the introduction video that was
released was to familiarize the consumers on what the Blackphone will do mostly
and that is security. This is the world’s first smart phone with that would
offer complete privacy, security and control to its users, says the company.
The carrier and vendor-independent smart phone is powered by a
security-oriented Android build called the PrivatOS, but without compromising on
security.
FEATURES:
- Blackphone is unlocked and works with any GSM carrier. The performance benchmarks put it among the top performers from any manufacturer.
- It has the features necessary to do the things you need, as well as all the things you want, while maintaining your privacy and security and giving you the freedom to choose your carrier, your apps, and your location.
- The tool installed on Blackphone gives you everything you need to take ownership of your mobile presence and digital footprints, and ensure nobody else can watch you without your knowledge.
- You can even make and receive secure phone calls; exchange secure texts; exchange and store secure files; have secure video chat; browse privately; and anonymize your activity through a VPN.
Exact
specifications of the phone have not been revealed, but Silent Circle’s CEO
Mike Janke claims it will be a "high-end" smart phone. It would be
showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month and would be
available for pre-order beginning 24th February 2014.
We know
that the Blackphone will have an encrypted version of Android but we are not
too sure what the encryption will change. Will it be like KitKat? Will it have
a custom encrypted OEM Skin? Only the coming time will tell. Let’s hope we can
get more information as the device gains closer to its release date.
