A year after its launch, Windows
Phone 8 will finally get its first major update in the form of Windows Phone
8.1.
The most important news is that
Windows Phone 8.1 has possibility that the Smartphone operating system may
finally be merged with the tablet OS Windows RT. It seems WP8.1 will support
for universal apps built using a shared HTML and JavaScript language that can
be used between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.1.
Storage:
A new "Storage Sense"
option also shows that Windows Phone 8.1 will support the feature of installing
apps to SD card.
Camera:
The new style looks similar to
Nokia's Camera application, with a top app bar which provides access to Lenses,
flash, and front / rear camera selection. Add on to this the app's bottom
navigation bar switches between capturing video and taking photo, and toggling
a new burst mode altogether.
qHD and QHD screen resolution:
The latest revelation is that
Windows Phone 8.1 will support qHD(540*960) with QHD(1440*2560), which is definitely more than 2K screen resolution.
Separate volume controls:
Separate volume controls is one of
those seemingly simple additions to the OS that will go a long way in providing
best to the user experience. For now, Windows Phone 8 only has one ‘master’
volume control, which changes levels for notifications, games and music in one
fell swoop (users can also set it to vibrate or none).
Notifications settings:
Notification Center, allowing
users to add certain system functions for quick access. There are also more
highly developed options to allow users to tune how and which notifications
come through on their Windows Phone.
Bluetooth 4.0 :
Microsoft has managed to get the
operating system through Bluetooth SIG certification. What this means for
consumers they'll have ability to take full advantage of Bluetooth 4.0 in the
next foremost update. The listing was filed on January 31st and is a sign of what's
to come in Windows Phone 8.1.
Other features:
There's more interesting stuff,
like the ability to change the default messaging application, the back button
will no longer terminate applications and more.
