Google Chrome 32 has been promoted to the
beta channel, after spending about 6 weeks in the dev channel. The latest build
of Chrome OS (in the stable channel) is bringing a whole grouping of new
features to all Chrome devices, save for the Chromebook Pixel (for now).
What
this means is that you will be able to spot the YouTube tab that's playing
among the five you have open or that annoying site that keeps auto-refreshing
every three minutes and starts playing some news clip in the background. The
Stable channel has been updated to 32.0.1700.95(Platform version: 4920.71.0).
This build contains a number of bug fixes, security updates and other feature
enhancements. The system will be receiving updates over the next several days.
FEATURES:
- There is a new window switching feature, which can be accessed with a tap of the overview mode button (F5) or a swipe down with three fingers on the track pad.
- You will see a zoomed-out view of all open windows on your machine.
- Further, build 32.0.1700.95 integrates the newest features that were brought to the Chrome browser for other platforms as well. That means you will now be notified at the right edge of a tab if content on that page is being displayed on a Chrome cast, if it is accessing the speakers or has control of your webcam.
- You will also see a sterner malware warning on potentially compromised sites, if you see this message in the download tray at the bottom of your screen, you can click “Dismiss” knowing that Chrome is working to keep you safe and can help manage another user's Chrome install with a new Supervised Users features.
- Get Help app has been updated to include a "Discover" section.
- The new auto-click feature, which will generate a click after the mouse pointer is moved, is available via Accessibility settings.
- You can now track down noisy tabs and can now visually scan your tabs for a speaker icon to quickly find the ones singing in the background. You will also be able to see which tabs are currently using your webcam or are being cast to your TV.
- With this you can manage multiple Chrome windows and quickly get to your favorite Chrome Apps with an integrated application launcher. On the desktop, an updated default styling of UI elements like form controls and scrollbars can be seen to match the sleek design of the new Chrome Metro interface.
Still, it's a good way for Chrome to both
ingrain itself into Windows 8 and also make the case for Chrome OS to users who
may not have tried it or are not inclined to. This shows that too few people actually
use Chrome in Metro mode. And for those who do not find the new interface to be
touch friendly, Chrome OS has added some touch input optimizations.
The new Chrome 32 also packs some new
extension and app APIs and Google boasts about plenty of stability and
performance improvements under the hood. Let’s see how people respond to it.
