Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of TVs,
announced that Comcast, DirecTV, M-GO, Netflix and Amazon will be among the
initial partners that will deliver a
package of Ultra HD content to its new line of 4K TVs. 4K is the
high-resolution video standard, which has
3,840x2,160 pixels, or 8.3 million picture elements, is 4 times the
number of pixels as standard full HD. Samsung was facing problem regarding
content for its 4K TVs that, customers
won't spend a premium for a new UHD TV unless good content is available. This
deal will solve Samsung’s problem.
Comcast plans to let its Xfinity customers launch the app
on their Samsung UHD TVs, which will stream 4K movies and Television shows. The
cable company said it is also working with NBC Universal to provide more
content. Amazon Instant Video said it was working with Samsung, and other top
Hollywood studios and TV programmers like Lionsgate, Warner Bros., 20th Century
Fox, Discovery etc, to offer Amazon customers a premium 4K video experience. Finally,
M-Go, which is a joint venture of Technicolor and DreamWorks Animation, a
pay-as-you-go streaming service, announced its plans to have 4K programming
ready for Samsung UHD TVs by this spring.
The streaming rival, Netflix also announced a partnership
with Samsung's smaller Korean rival and said that its flagship original series
'House of Cards' would be filmed and offered in 4K this year.
Amazon’s spokesperson said that Customers are excited about
the future of 4K and the next evolution of high resolution video. They are
working with consumer electronics leaders and Hollywood studios to make that a
reality. However, there are a number of elements that need to be worked upon to
create a real 4K experience for customers. With great content and devices, appropriate
service is required that deliver content to the devices.
Internet delivery of UHD movies will place high demands on
home broadband connections. For the alternative, Samsung will sell a UHD Video
Pack - a hard drive loaded with movies that can be connected to its TV sets.
If this happens it would be a gift for customers to get
high quality standard content.
