Microsoft
is currently working on an “Update 1” for Windows 8.1, but it has bigger plans
for the future of Windows. The company’s Threshold plans will involve a release
of Windows 9 around April 2015. Microsoft will unveil its vision for Windows 9
at the company’s Build 2014 Developers Conference in April, with the release
planned for a year later.
It appears
that Microsoft is currently planning to use the Windows 9 branding and vision
as a way to move away from some of the criticisms of the Windows 8 operating
system. For now It’s not clear that what type of changes will be made to
Windows 9. Microsoft will reportedly use three major milestone development
points for Windows 9, but it’s not assured how many of them will be released to
the public during the development period. The software is currently in the
final planning stages for Windows 9 and work is expected to begin after the
Build 2014 developer conference in April. It seems like Microsoft will use
Build 2014 as a launch point for its vision of Windows 9, after detailing some
of the planned changes in an attempt to generate excitement around the
company’s future plans.
Windows
9 to be smaller, cheaper and with more apps
Microsoft
has hinted that the new Windows 9 will be cheaper as feedback from people
suggested that the Windows 8 tablets should be cheaper in price. Keeping this
point in mind Windows 9 is going to be relatively low in price with support for
more apps.
Windows
9 power management
The
Windows spokesperson said that Windows Phone 8 is based on the Windows Phone
kernel, so the power management has to get better. He pointed for the next
release i.e. Windows 9, they will get even farther.
Windows
9 gestures and experiences
There are
features Microsoft plans for every version of Windows that get cut to ship on
time; sometimes they reappear, sometimes they don't. Windows 9 will have some
gesture based advance controls with new user experience.
With the
debacle of Windows 8, Microsoft is planning to come up with Windows 9, with
improved features and to cover up the mess created by Windows 8. Let’s see what
April 2015 holds for Microsoft.
