The LG G3, the alleged successor to LG's
current flagship smart phone, the G2, is destined for greatness if rumors are
to be believed. The company is reportedly planning to introduce fingerprint
sensor in the G3 and G2 Pro, a move that will make it join the elite company of
Apple, HTC and Pantech. As where will be the fingerprint sensor located, the
report says that it is likely to be found on the back of the handset, which is
a kind of to be expected, given that the G2 has already introduced the back
located volume and power controls.

LG was initially planning on launching the G2
with such a sensor, but due to the lengthy development process and low yield,
the Korean company had to delay the introduction of its fingerprint scanning
technology.
According to the reports, on the 21st, LG Electronics’ Advance Development Team is developing fingerprint recognition technology targeting premium smart phones, such as G2 Pro and G3. LG Electronics plans to apply fingerprint recognition function to four – five premium models including the two this year. It is very likely that the technology will be applied in the format of swiping at the back of phone as it is in Pantech’s Vega Secret Note. The technology development phase of G2 Pro is nearly completed. As for G3, a prototype has been produced and the team is currently testing the fingerprint recognition functions.

LG Electronics had originally intended to apply fingerprint recognition function to G2 released last year. However, it was pushed back in development schedule and had to take back fingerprint function in the final development phase. The instable production yield of fingerprint recognition module maker was also taken into consideration because instable fingerprint recognition module supply can affect the marketing strategy for G2.
LG Electronics is particularly striving for UI and UX improvement in order to achieve fingerprint recognition optimization. The established theory has so far been that the convenience decreases as smart phone security function is strengthened. However, LG Electronics evaluates that it can secure both security and convenience by improving UI and UX.
We won't be surprised if LG does bring the fingerprint sensor to G3 because the company is always at the forefront when it comes to bringing innovation to its products, such as flexible smart phones and self-healing coatings. So, given the company's penchant for new technologies, a fingerprint sensor on an LG device is a distinct possibility.
Based on the recent rumors, LG is expected to
release the G3 in May, whereas the G2 Pro should hit the market even earlier
than that. Till then, feel free to share your thoughts below.
