Why Android?
Android is an Operating System (OS), based on Linux programming. The basic objective of designing Android was to provide an Open Space (OS) to smart-phones and tablet computers that make use of touch screens. A consortium of companies engaged in hardware, software and telecommunication, named Open Handset Alliance was founded in 2007 that launched the first Android-powered phone in October 2008.

The open source code is issued by Google under the Apache License. Manufacturers of mobile devices, wireless carriers and enthusiastic developers can use and distribute Android software after making due modification as required by them.

Android has a large number of ‘apps’ or community of developers writing applications that stood at about 7.0 lakhs during October 2012 and could be downloaded from Google Play. Theses apps adopted customized version of Java programming language. Android has the primary app store of 25 billion that encompasses 71% of populace of mobile developers.

Android is the most widely used smart-phone platform of the world after it overtook Symbian in 2010. It has the recognition of high-tech, low-cost and light-weight OS. Therefore, although basically designed for smart-phones and tablets, Android has been getting wide applicability in televisions, digital cameras, games consoles and a number of other electronic devices.

Besides applicability, Android owes its popularity to variability of sizes, features and prices. It meets the customized needs of users of every age, taste and pocket. Android makes its users, the monarch of their choice, experience and fun-making fervor. The variable screen sizes and eight versions of OS make Android a favorite name for the mobile users and fun seekers.

The most frequented Search Engine; Google becomes a constant companion of users of Android. Wherever placed, users can now search the web, navigate the world, connect, create and collaborate and be entertained at the top of their moods. Android is the courier of all kinds of personalized contacts, photos, g-mail and everything that used to be the prerogative of PCs.

With the advent of Android, the dictum ‘All work and no play makes Jack dull’ is getting obliterated because at any point of work, one can divert to Google Play for playing or read from the e-books or e–magazines. Android is best known for its wide applicability, appealing beauty and simplicity,
