According to a Korean publication, Samsung's
next generation flagship smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, will feature a
TouchID style sensor, the CEO of Fingerprint Cards has confirmed this news.
Swedish technology company Fingerprint Cards, which specializes in such
technology has said that it hopes to provide this technology, similar to the
TouchID sensor found on the iPhone 5S, to a number of leading mobile phone
makers in 2014.
There are several benefits associated with
fingerprint sensors. One of them is that the user can make quick and secure
payments through the smart phone with the help of this fingerprint sensor. He
just has to click the device with his finger which saves all the information
and makes the payments quickly. There could be more potential benefits of this
technology like keeping the mobile secured.

Apple’s iPhone 5S has this significant new
feature which is the "Touch ID" capacitive fingerprint sensor built
into the home button that is capable of scanning the sub-epidermal skin layers.
The Touch ID can be used to unlock an iPhone and authorize iTunes purchases.
Apple says it can recognize fingerprints irrespective in which direction the
thumb is placed. The home button is covered with a layer sapphire crystal to
ensure it does not get scratched. Apple says the fingerprint data will not be
stored on its servers and won’t be available to third-party apps. Similarly,
Samsung’s Galaxy S5 will have this feature.
Samsung is said to be working on
incorporating the fingerprint scanner right into the display, but it is not
clear from the report if the Galaxy S5 will feature this type of sensor. The
Fingerprint Cards AB, a Swedish company developing biometric technology,
recently reported that it has partnered with global players including some from
South Korea. The company develops both swipe-based (HTC One Max-type) sensors
and touch-based (iPhone 5S-type) sensors.
This isn't the first we have heard about
Samsung's Galaxy S5 getting a fingerprint sensor. Last year, an ARM executive
confirmed that the handset would arrive touting a 64-bit chip, same as the
iPhone 5S, adding that a feature such as a fingerprint sensor will require more
powerful memory capacity. If the e- rumors are to be believed, the device will
come in a metal casing, a 20MP rear-facing camera and a 5in 2K resolution
display.
Speculation has suggested that the phone will
launch in early 2014 and so we will wait for its release. Well, what are the
chances of the Galaxy S5 incorporating a fingerprint sensor?
