Now, according to Intel's CEO, tablets
running Google's operating system are designed for 64-bit and will soon be
available. It will launch "Bay Trail," the next-generation Atom Z3000
chip that pushes tablets towards PC-esque levels of performance. A few years
back, Intel launched the Atom processor which was designed for an emerging
low-power world. But over the time,
Atom's performance has improved a lot.
It appears that the 64 bit craze was started
by Apple; with its iPhone 5S and then Samsung came out and said they’re also
prepping a handset with this kind of architecture. The Intel’s series of CPUs
includes the Z3000 series that is Intel’s Atom brand CPU basically, going neck
to neck with the ARM mobile processor. The most powerful model of it is Z3770
with clock speeds of 2.4 GHz and which support resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600
pixels.
Intel chief Brian Krzanich said that Android
tablets using the company's new Atom-based Bay Trail processor are set to hit
the market as early as this spring, bringing along a technology which was till
now limited to Windows 8.1 devices. It is also worth noting that while 64-bit
slates may be arriving soon, the number of Android apps are optimized to take
advantage of this feature will be very low at first. But still there are
chances that the developers will quickly take care of this as more and more
64-bit-ready phones and tablets start to become available
