Ajmer Sharif…A Holy Destination

Friday, January 03, 2014

A short trip to Ajmer city has given me lots of good memories and to know more about the 5th largest city of Rajasthan. This city surely reflects Rajasthani culture. There are N numbers of places that one would never miss. One of the best place is AJMER SHARIF.

Ajmer Sharif…A Holy Destination

Ajmer Sharif, was the perfect way to start the first day of journey. The auto driver left me in a narrow street and said I could walk straight to the Ajmer Sharif shrine ahead. When I looked at the crowd my resolve wavered but I somehow proceeded to the entrance. The Street contains many shops on both the sides.

While getting into the Dargah I saw there was a water tank inside where you can clean your feet before entering the main shrine and I happily cupped water in my hands and washed my feet. An official person asked me to cover my head!

There were shops inside Dargah too. There were a lot of women on exterior part of main entrance to the Dargah offering prayers. I could see a lot of threads tied to the jali.  They believe if you have a wish then tie a thread to the jali and you come back and untie them if your wish comes true. On a right hand side man was standing with bunch of red color threads, I got one from him by paying 20Rs. and made a wish and tied to the jali.

There was a long queue outside shrine door. It took one hour to get in. The claustrophobic, shoulder to shoulder without any breathing space kind of crowded. I don’t know how I ended near the officials who bless you. It was only one second of moment when I saw Shrine and then carried away by crowd to the other side of the door.

While I was heading back I saw too big containers on opposite directions one on left and other on right hand side. When I went near to explore I was surprised to see tons of food grains and money in both the containers. It was deep enough to make proper judgment of the stuff carried in it. They use them once in a year during Eid festival. Food prepared from it is offered to needy people.

It was only after the visit I realized that the shrine of Hazrat Mu’inuddin Chishti is known for making a wish. They say if you make a wish here it is granted! So I made mine. And has a long way to go and see many places but Ajmer sharif has its own charm!!!
