Apple has patented a system which would allow for voice-based tagging and retrieval of photographs stored on iOS devices, according to sources. The patent application was first made back in March this year that would allow for “a method for tagging or searching images using a voice-based digital assistant”, i.e. Siri. It is a "Voice-Based Image Tagging and Searching" which connects voice with pictures saved on an iPhone.
Apple is planning to widen the scope of Siri - its hit-and-miss personal voice assistant
in order to include iPhone owners' photo libraries, judged by a newly published patent application. Apple's system would also allow users to tag photos with their voice. Apple's application notes that a growing volume of photos collected by users on devices like iPhones makes them increasingly hard to sort through. The company says that tagging photos based on names of people or places makes it easier to find what users are looking for. Also See : Apple operating on Gesture Control Methods
Apple assures that “while photo capture and digital image storage technology has improved substantially over the past decade, traditional approaches to photo-tagging can be non-intuitive, strenuous and also time-consuming”.
So, instead of manually tagging each of your images using keywords or labels, Apple wants you to be able to say something like “This is me at the beach” and have Siri understand and tag the photo with the relevant information. Once a photograph is tagged using the disclosed tagging techniques, other photographs that resemble similar may be automatically tagged with the same information, thus preventing the need to tag every similar photograph individually.
This invention could even automatically tag corresponding photos which are based on the time and location at which they were clicked, to make it easier for users to sort their pictures. With photos properly tagged, users could then use their voice in a similar manner to search for the pictures they want. For example, a user commands their device, "Show me photographs of me at Paris," and the corresponding items are delivered.
It is an interesting feature which demonstrates Siri’s capabilities of keeping good control over the massive amount of photographs being taken on a daily basis. However, it will take time for this patent to come to us in its avatar by which we can command Siri and Siri will be slave of our voice!! This Master-Slave story sounds pretty interesting.
Stay tuned to Edictogram for such interesting updates.
