Xbox
One, the successor of Xbox 360 is the upcoming video game console developed by
Microsoft. It will directly compete with Sony’s PS 4 and Nintendo’s Wii U as
part of the eighth generation of video game consoles.
Xbox One will be launched
this Friday, 22nd November 2013.
HARDWARE:
Xbox
One looks like a VCR or a set-top cable box but Microsoft says it’s a complete entertainment
box. Its exterior casing consist of a two-tone “liquid black” finish
with half in matte gray and other half in glossier black. It is powered by an AMD
“Jaguar” Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) with two quad-core modules
totaling eight x86-64 cores clocked at 1.75 GHz, and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM
having memory bandwidth of about 68.3 GB/s.
It
has an additional 32 GB of embedded static RAM or ESRAM with memory
bandwidth of 109 GB/s.
CONTROLLER
The Xbox One’s controller maintains
the overall layout of Xbox 360’s design. The directional pad has been changed
in a four-way design and the battery compartment is slimmer. The rear triggers
and shoulder buttons are bigger and more accommodating.
KINECT
KINECT
Xbox One has an updated version of
Kinect for voice recognition and motion tracking. The new Kinect uses a 1080p
wide-angle time-of flight camera and processes 2 gigabits of data per
second to read its environment.
In 2014, a Windows compatible version of the new Kinect will be released.
SOFTWARE AND
SERVICES:
OPERATING
SYSTEM
The device will run three Operating
system: Xbox OS, an OS based on Windows Kernel, and another OS that will allow
the other two operating systems to communicate by Virtualization.
MEDIA
INTERCONNECTIVITY
Xbox One can snap applications at the
side of the screen as a form of multitasking. It serves as a pass-through for
an existing television set-top box over HDMI.
VOICE
CONTROL
GAMES:
Microsoft
has just made a handful of games for the users. Some of them are:
- Ryse: Son Of Rome
- Forza
- Killer Instinct
- Crimson Dragon
- Loco Cycle
All these games will be distributed
on Blue-ray Disc and digitally through Xbox Games Stores. Xbox will not have
backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games.
PRICE:
Xbox
One is priced at $499.
VERDICT:
The
Xbox has some areas to work out with its system software and voice recognition
systems. And will definitely take some time to come out with more interesting
games.
Anyways,
Microsoft has produced a console which is worth buying and these devices are
definitely going to be more popular in near future.
